Alex McCord: I Had To Completely Start Over After Firing

I watched a repeat of last season's RHONYC's reunion episode the other day and again, instantly got why Bravo fired Jill, Kelly and Cindy--it was the epilogue of three ugly and nasty bitches who deserved to get canned. But unless Bravo just got tired of Simon's overbearing claws (totally understandable) cutting in on the action, I still don't get why they fired Alex too. First, Alex clearly LOVED being on RHONYC. Second, she brought a Brooklyn element to the show which reminded viewers that NYC isn't just about one borough and lastly, while she did trip over herself quite a bit last season (esp. with no Bethenny to pull her back up), Alex did seem to come into her own last year, standing up for herself and letting us get to know her more, which helped her remain relevant:
Former Real Housewives of New York City star Alex McCord is opening up about how her life has changed for the getting the boot from the series last September.

In an exclusive interview with Celebuzz, the mother-of-two from Brooklyn reveals that she and husband Simon van Kempen were left with one option: to completely start over.

“Being on the show is such a double-edged sword,” she told Celebuzz. “These shows are meant to cover your real life; but the show actually swallows up your real life. So when there is no show, you have to completely start over. Your former life is gone … and reality TV is seen as a liability for some companies.”

McCord was one of four New York housewives axed from the Bravo show; co-stars Jill Zarin, Kelly Bensimon and Cindy Bishop were also let go, in one fell swoop.

Though she no longer has to worry about her words and actions being edited down for television, McCord says she is still nervous about the effects that the show — not to mention a simple search in Google — may have on her two children, Francois and Johan.

“My oldest son, who is 8, just Googled himself for the first time in his computer science class,” McCord said. “It’s a whole new conversation I never thought I’d have.”

During her stint on the hit reality show, McCord’s two children were portrayed on the show as out of control, which became a heated topic among fans and the media. Even today, an innocent search in Google will draw up plenty on the dynamic boys — not to mention those racy pics of their mother that were leaked onto the Internet, in 2008.

Still, while McCord described the experience of filming her children as “nerve-wracking,” she is now focused on moving beyond the camera.

“Now we have time to focus on the boys, and not how the show is going to portray them,” she told Celebuzz.

McCord and van Kempen also have budding new careers. They recently launched a linen company, Aluxe Home and Hotel Collection, and Alex will give her thoughts on this season of New York on her own blog for RumorFix.

“When I got let go, I thought I’d take a step back and not watch the show at all. But it isn’t realistic,” she said.

“I’m just disconnected enough to enjoy the show … and thrilled not to have that gut-wrenching ‘Oh no! What are they going to do with what I said?’ feeling every time a new episode airs.”

  2. It's easy to see why Bravo fired Alex. She had no relevance, no storyline of her own. Her storyline consisted of sticking her nose into everyone's business namely the feud between Ramona and Luann. I'm very glad she's no longer on the show and I'm especially glad her disgusting husband is no longer on the show. Good riddance.

  3. they fired her bc she was the most boring, uninspired and uncomfortable housewife of all time. she lacked charisma and i honestly never understood how she was cast, let alone brought back 3 times. good luck to her, but she mad for bad tv.

  5. The only reason she made it past the first season is people were trying to figure out if Simon was really a fag or just a fancy pants dandy.

  6. I'm probably in the minority but I liked Alex, her first season on the show was very quiet and she took lot of hits from Ramona Singer,Luann,Jill and Kelly. She did finally find her voice as they were nasty about her 2boys. As mother myself people can say what they like about me but when they are nasty about 2 little boys who are under 5yrs old it's a different matter. I was glad she found her voice as a lot of what she was saying was true. If having lots of money turns u into a bitch I don't want it. They talk nasty about u behind your back then nice to your face, hurt each others feelings. I would hate to be their "friend". I liked the fact that she confronted whoever was being nasty to their face as well as behind their back. Both Alex and Simon never plugged their business whilst on the show like some of the others did e.g Zarin Fabrics,Ramona Singer fashions,Pino Gricio and jewellery line not forgetting Bethenny's skinny girl. (I likeBethenny) Her and Simon own a hotel which we never got to see on the show. Sorry she has gone as she was genuine.
